Portable DAQ is simply bringing a DAQ (data
acquisition) system to a remote location to acquire data at the source. In many
cases, portable DAQ is accomplished by using a laptop computer configured with
a PCMCIA A/D data acquisition card or USB-based DAQ module. Portable DAQ can
also be designed as a special system into a ruggedized laptop with PCMCIA A/D
data acquisition card possibly in an expansion case. This depends on the total
quantity of data to be captured.
Portable DAQ solutions are required when
measurements are to be made at a remote location were there is not a local
power source or transporting a conventional PC is not appropriate. These
locations include but are not limited to mountaintops for weather, seismic,
remote radio testing, astrometics, and other measurements. Portable DAQ can
