PCI Digital I/O Card Solutions from Measurement Computing
A PCI digital I/O Card is a special type of
data acquisition card that provides only digital inputs and digital outputs.
The digital I/O on a data acquisition card or board typically interfaces with
standard logic-level digital signals.
A PCI digital I/O Card (containing and A/D
or D/A) may have 4, 8, 16, 32 lines or channels of Digital I/O, and can be in
almost any combination of input and output channels. For larger, more complex
applications, a PCI digital I/O Card is even available with 96 channels of I/O.
Some boards provide logic level and high current drive outputs (64 mA sink, 15
mA source), compatible with relay and SSR and relay racks.
In addition to a standard multi-channel PCI
digital I/O card with logic level and high current drive outputs, the digital
I/O family of products includes much more. Included in this family you will
find multi-channel counter/times (with and without crystal control oscillator),
2-4 Channel Quadrature encoder boards, Electromechanical relay boards, and 32
Bit Interrupt Vector input boards.
Digital I/O Card Logic Levels
Digital input voltage levels for the
“On-State” or Logic Code “1” are typically from 2 to 5 volts. Digital input
voltage levels for the “Off-State” or Logic Code “0” are typically from 0.8 to
0.0 volt.
Digital output voltage levels for
the “On-State” or Logic Code “1” are typically from 3 to 5 volts. Digital input
voltage levels for the “Off-State” or Logic Code “0” are typically from 0.4 to
0.0 volt.
PCI is an interconnection system between a
microprocessor and attached devices in which expansion slots are spaced closely
and offer high-speed operation. PCI Digital I/O based systems can support new
PCI boards, while continuing to support Industry Standard Architecture (ISA)
expansion boards, an older standard.
